Using Kiln Dust to Improve Weak Subgrades for Pavement Construction: A Field Verification in Michigan, USA

چکیده
Remove-and-replace with suitable material has been the primary solution used for improving subgrades in Michigan, USA, when weak are encountered road construction. Considering large extent of silty and clayey soils found southeastern where much population roads located within state, earthwork associated this is massive expensive. The use cement kiln dust (CKD) or lime (LKD) as a subgrade stabilizer can be cost-effective if there sufficient evidence to prove that such stabilization climate Michigan. This became subject field laboratory investigation carried out Michigan sponsored by Department Transportation. findings from portion research (which were published separate manuscript) proved CKD’s suitability long-term LKD’s capacity being short-term modifications study covers testing investigation. Two CKD-stabilized another two LKD-stabilized subgrades, which already 4–6 years, tested strength, using dynamic cone penetration (DCP) tests. California bearing ratios estimated DCP tests showed could offer strength gains high 200–515% 149–257% compared situ soils, respectively, even after years use.

Kiln Dust for Stabilization of Pavement Base and Subrade Materials
INTRODUCTION The purpose of this synthesis of available information was to provide the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) with a concise document on the state of the practice regarding the use of kiln dusts for stabilization of subgrade soils or granular base materials in highway pavements. This document should assist TxDOT in making decisions related to allowing the use of kiln dusts a...
متن کاملCharacterization of Cementitiously Stabilized Subgrades for Mechanistic-empirical Pavement Design
Pavements are vulnerable to subgrade layer performance because it acts as a foundation. Due to significant increase in truck traffic, pavement engineers are challenged to build more strong and long-lasting pavements. To increase the load-bearing capacity of pavements, subgrade layer is often stabilized with cementitious additives. Thus, an overall characterization of cementitiously stabilized s...
متن کاملStabilisation of Engine Oil Contaminated Soil Using Cement Kiln Dust
The utilisation of industrial bi-products such as cement kiln dust (CKD) is of increasing importance as an option for stabilising contaminated sites due to its pozzolanic nature and also in view of minimising the environmental impact. The experimental programme was carried out in the present study to evaluate the efficacy of CKD as stabilising agent at different percentages 2%, 6%, and 14% (w/w...
متن کاملLeveraging SMT: Using SMT Solvers to Improve Verification; Using Verification to Improve SMT Solvers
Solvers for the Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) problem are making rapid progress. However, many verification tools aren’t making use of the full power of modern SMT solvers. We believe that the verification community could be benefiting more from the work of the SMT community; at the same time, the SMT community could benefit from a more active and engaged verification user community.
